  • ½ cup (118ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • ½ cup (20g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 ounces (113g) unsweetened applesauce (about ½ cup)
  • 2 ounces (57g) unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups (186g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips (Vegan ones, to keep it vegan)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9×9” pan with foil and spray it with cooking spray.
  2. In a bowl, stir together the vegetable oil and granulated sugar. Then mix in vanilla, cocoa powder, and applesauce.
  3. Add melted chocolate and salt to the mixture; stir until smooth. Gradually mix in the all-purpose flour and then add the chocolate chips.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-28 minutes. Allow cooling before cutting them into squares.
  5. For a decorative touch, sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
For a gluten-free version, use a gluten-free flour blend.
Feel free to add nuts for extra crunch.
