- 1 1/2 cups apple cider
- 2 cups cake flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
Instructions
- Bring apple cider to a boil in a small saucepan over high heat. Let boil for 1 minute, then reduce heat to a simmer.
- Simmer until reduced to about 1/2 cup, which may take around 15 minutes. Ensure to measure out 1/2 cup after reducing.
- Allow the reduced apple cider to cool completely before proceeding.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Spray a donut pan with non-stick spray and set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together cake flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the reduced apple cider, milk, brown sugar, sugar, egg, melted butter, and vanilla.
- Pour the liquid mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Evenly distribute the batter into the donut molds.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 8 minutes.
- Melt 1/2 cup butter in a shallow bowl.
- In another shallow bowl, whisk together 1 cup sugar and 2 tsp cinnamon.
- Dip both sides of each donut into the melted butter, then toss in the cinnamon sugar mixture until both sides are coated.
Notes
Make sure the apple cider is well reduced for the best flavor.
You can store the donuts in an airtight container to keep them fresh for up to three days.
Try adding a glaze on top for an extra sweet touch.
