Ingredients
Scale
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup hot water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Prepare an 8-inch square baking pan by buttering and lining it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the egg, buttermilk, hot water, and oil to the dry ingredients and whisk until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and tap lightly to eliminate air bubbles.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Keep the cake in the pan.
- To frost, prepare the One Minute Chocolate Frosting as directed.
- Pour the frosting over the warm cake and allow it to set for at least 2 hours before slicing.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream and enjoy! Store any leftovers covered at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Notes
Make sure to butter the sides of the pan well to prevent sticking.
Allow the cake to cool slightly before frosting for a smooth finish.
For a richer flavor, let the cake and frosting sit at room temperature before serving.
