Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups (260g) whole wheat flour, spooned & leveled
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons (85g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 2 tablespoons (25g) packed light or dark brown sugar
- 1 and 3/4 cups (420g/ml) buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the waffle maker on medium-high heat and the oven to 200°F (93°C). Place a wire rack on a baking sheet and set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- In another bowl, combine the melted butter, eggs, and brown sugar. Then add the buttermilk and vanilla, whisking until mixed well.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently whisk until combined, leaving some small lumps.
- Grease the waffle maker and pour about 1/3 cup of batter into each well. Cook until crisp, about 4–5 minutes, then transfer to the wire rack in the oven to keep warm.
- Serve the waffles immediately with your favorite toppings.
Notes
For extra crispiness, ensure the waffle maker is adequately preheated before pouring in the batter.
