Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 8 oz Cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1 3/4 cup Powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 1/3 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder (use dutch process)
  • 1 tsp Pure vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Ensure the butter and cream cheese are at room temperature to prevent splitting.
  2. Sift the powdered sugar and cocoa powder together in a large bowl and set aside.
  3. Beat the butter on high speed for 2 minutes in a mixer, then scrape the bowl.
  4. Add in the cream cheese and beat on high speed for 1 minute.
  5. Incorporate half of the powdered sugar/cocoa mixture and mix on low until just combined, then add the remaining mixture and mix.
  6. Scrape the bowl and add the vanilla extract, beating on high speed until the frosting is creamy.

Notes

Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for the best results.
Sifting the dry ingredients helps to prevent lumps in the frosting.
This frosting can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
